Junior Lesson Stages

Stages

Tots

Tots lessons use the Swim a Song™ programme to introduce adults with babies or very young children to the world of aquatics. The programme is fully supported and endorsed by the ASA and is the foundation of the ASA National Plan for Teaching Swimming. Swim a Song™ incorporates water safety, free movement, structured play, exercise to music and guidance in physical and educational development through a three stage programme. Each stage concentrates on a theme incorporating movement through song and rhyme, with
actions relating to various water skills, allowing the child to complete a task successfully through play.

Juniors
The main stage follows the ASA National Plan and takes young swimmers through the FUNdamental movement skills stages 1 to 7:

Stage 1 - develops basic safety awareness, the 'class' scenario, basic movement skills and water confidence

Stage 2 - develops safe entries to the water including jumping, basic floating and rotation

Stage 3 - swim up to 10 metres (front and back) and improves water safety knowledge

Stage 6 - develops effective swimming skills including coordinated breathing and developing water safety aspects
